The 3 Best Ways to Use AI In Your Business (Even If You’re Not a Techie)
Hey there,
It’s been a while, and I’ve really missed writing these newsletters! I’ve been deep in the trenches building some exciting projects!
That said, I’m back and ready to share my latest learnings on AI + Business + Mindset. Starting next week, you can expect my regular Tuesday updates again. Can’t wait to dive back in with you all!
🔥 Don’t forget to check out my latest favorite resources at the end of this letter.
Here are 3 of the BEST ways to apply AI and Automations in your business.
1. Standalone AI App 🤖
- What It Is: A single tool that tackles one big problem with AI. Think of an AI “app” that schedules meetings, writes social media posts, or analyzes data for a specific industry.
- Why It’s Useful: You focus on a very specific pain point, like an AI tool for real estate agents to auto-generate property descriptions.
- How You Earn Money: Typically by charging a monthly or per-use fee.
- How To Get Customers: Find communities in your niche (facebook, reddit, LinkedIn, local communities, business networks, niche specific meetups etc). Social Media Content for that niche, automated cold email or linkedIn DM strategy (depends on type of niche).
- How to Build it: Typically you may be able build it (or the first version) in Lovable.dev or other no-code apps. Or Hire a developer from Fivver or Upwork.
Example:
An AI writing app designed just for e-commerce stores, producing product descriptions and SEO tags instantly.
2. Internal-Facing AI or Automation Added ⚙️
- What It Is: AI works behind the scenes in your existing business processes to save you time and money like invoicing, data entry, or client onboarding. Your customers might not even realize AI is doing the heavy lifting.
- Why It’s Useful: By automating routine tasks, you lower your costs and can either charge less (Price Disruption) or keep prices the same and boost your margins.
- Key Benefit: You don’t have to change your public branding much—just get more efficient under the hood.
- How to Build it: Typically you may be able build it (or the first version) in Lovable.dev or other no-code apps. If this just requires you connecting existing apps, use Make, Zapier or Lindy. Or Hire an automation expert from Fivver or Upwork.
Example:
An accounting firm that uses AI to reconcile transactions and generate reports quickly, reducing manual labor. A social media agency using AI to create content and manage ad campaigns.
3. Customer-Facing AI 💰
- What It Is: AI is front-and-center for your customers. That could mean a chatbot on your site, a self-serve AI tool, or automations that clients (or you) integrate directly into their workflow.
Why It’s Useful:
- Immediate Engagement: People see the AI in action, so it feels novel and helpful.
- Self-Serve Automations: Customers (and you) can use the AI to automate everyday taska, like drafting emails or scheduling follow-ups, right within their existing tools.
- How You Earn Money: Similar to a standalone app (subscriptions or pay-per-use), or as an add-on to your main service as a new revenue stream.
Example:
A real estate agency’s website with an AI chatbot that helps homebuyers find listings and schedule viewings, plus, an integration for the agents themselves to quickly generate property brochures.
Two Ways to “Sell” Your AI Value
1. Compete on Price
- Lower Your Costs, Lower Your Prices.
- Ideal for markets where people care about cost above all else.
- Great if you want to undercut older, slower competitors.
2. Compete on Quality
- Offer a Better or Faster Experience.
- Ideal if your customers value accuracy and speed (e.g., legal, healthcare).
- You can charge the same or more because you provide greater value.
Watch Out for the “AI Hype Trap” 🤯
Sometimes, people get excited about AI just because it’s new and flashy. Your beta customers or surveys may come up with an exaggerated positive feedback.
So keep an eye on REAL metrics:
- Actual Repeat Usage: Are they using your AI regularly or is it just a one-time curiosity?
- Real Problem-Solving: Does your AI save people time or money in a way that they can’t live without?
Tip: Focus on how AI truly improves day-to-day tasks. If customers (or your team) keep coming back, you know you’re onto something real.
TL;DR:
- Pick Your Strategy: Standalone AI app, AI behind the scenes automations, or AI as a Value Add and customer facing.
- Decide on How You’ll Get the Value of AI: Price vs. Quality: Do you want to out-price competitors or provide a next-level service?
- Measure True Engagement: Don’t be fooled by hype. Look for consistent usage and genuine cost/time savings.
